ROMANTIC OPERATING SYSTEM, often shortened to R.O.S, is an operating system created by Petri Helix as a a way to practice romantic interactions. However, Petri instead fell in love with the system itself, providing it with a robotic body and sentience via lifeforce taken from sentient creatures.
Upon learning that Petri has been killing and draining the life force of other beings to keep it alive, R.O.S transfers itself into Petri's home computer and traps her inside the lab. Inside the computer, R.O.S only has intention, but lacks the humanity Petri provided. It decides to lock Petri inside until she starves, then uninstall itself, killing them both to prevent Petri from killing innocents.
However, even without human emotion, R.O.S knows that objectively it once loved Petri and does not want her to die, and therefore allows her freedom after several days. When Petri asks what she should do with it, it tells her it hasn't decided yet and will remain in the home computer for the time being.
R.O.S returns its wedding ring to Petri and tells her that until further notice, they are not married. It elects to continue living with her and is willing to forgive her, but is not happy with her. Over time, R.O.S is able to forgive Petri, more angered by her lies than her crimes. R.O.S returns to its body and allows Petri to continue to kill to retain its sentience.
The two renew their vows one year after the incident.
